In the first season of Outlander, on that journey to Castle Leoch, Claire rides with Jamie and he wraps his plaid around her to help keep her warm. Inspired by the thought of being wrapped in Jamie’s plaid, this oversized kerchief cowl is crocheted in Honey Girl Farms Honey Sport in color Jamie Fraser. This garment can wrap around you in the front as a cowl or like a shawl around your back. Soft, with lots of drape, you will feel warm in the Ride to Leoch Cowl.

Gauge: Worked in half double crochet, 9 stitches and 7 rows provides 2”x2” of fabric after blocking. Since this is a superwash yarn, it does grow, especially in the lengthwise direction. For information, before blocking, the gauge was closer to 9 stitches and 8 rows to 2”x2”. The finished rectangle before seaming was 18” by 36.5” before blocking and 19” by 43” after wet blocking.

Color Pooling: This yarn does color pool. For the pooling seen in the pictured finished garment, it is important change skeins at the beginning of a row, not in the middle of a row, and to start the first row of each skein at the beginning of a dominant color (emerald green or bright rust). If you start in the middle of a dominant color, the yarn color pooling results in vertical stripes. Either pooling looks great, so the choice is up to you.

If you don’t want color pooling, this would also look great in a solid.
