Ridgey Didge is a warm, cosy raglan jumper with subtle texture, a splash of contrast colour and tailored hems and cuffs. It is a stylish and practical addition to any kid’s winter wardrobe.

Yarn: Any 10-12ply/aran-bulky weight yarn with good stitch definition. The pattern is suitable for plain or heathered yarn as the subtle texture creates interest, but lightly variegated yarns should work too as the slipped stitches will break up pooling.

Construction: Ridgey Didge is a top-down raglan knit. The yoke is knit back-and-forth until the V-neck is joined and then the body is knit in the round with an easy slip-stitch pattern that creates a subtle texture that mimics ribbing. Then the body is finished with a sewn hem in contrast colour - don’t be put off by the sewing: the method is super easy, super fast and kind of fun! The sleeves are knit in the round and the cuff is completed the same way as the hem.

The stitches used in this pattern are not difficult or unusual and the sewn hem and cuffs are very easy even though they might look hard. However, I rate this pattern intermediate to advanced because of the high degree of concentration needed in the raglan section. To assist, I have provided additional instructions for each size. Just download the pdf for the size you are knitting. Once the yoke is complete, it is a simple knit.

The top is sized with a finished chest from 52 to 89 cm / 20 to 35”, roughly corresponding to 1-16 years, and is meant to be worn with about 5-7 cm/2-2½“ ease. For best results, choose a size based on measurements rather than age.

Yardage is approximate and only given for the main colour. For the contrast colour you will need 120 m/130 yd at most.
