Rievaulx features stunning cables based on the knotwork of an 8th Century stone carving in St Bartholomew’s Church, West Witton, Wensleydale.
The pattern comprises written instructions, with some parts charted instead of written. Chart reading skills are required.
SIZE
To fit 32(34:36:38:40:42:44:46:48:50:52: 54:56:58)“ chest. The finished chest measurements include 6–9cm/2½–4” of positive ease.
MATERIALS
Aran weight yarn with approximately 160 metres/175 yards per 100g. See the table below for the number of 100g balls/skeins required in each size.
The pictured sample was knitted with The Fibre Company ‘Arranmore’ in St Claire.
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
5mm/US 8 needles for small and large diameter circular knitting. 6 stitchmarkers. 7 or 8 buttons: 25mm/1” size.
TENSION/GAUGE
18 sts and 25 rows/rounds per 10cm/4” in blocked stocking stitch/stockinette.
Each front cable panel measures 7½cm/3” wide after blocking. The back cable panel measures 15cm/6” wide after blocking.
Adjust needle size as necessary to achieve the specified tension.

The missing sleeve decrease round instruction should be as follows:
Decrease Round: work across Chart A (or Chart E), sm, k to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, sm, skp, k to marker, sm.
