Right Angles Cocoon
One of the things that I love about simple texture patterns is how adaptable they are and how many ways you can vary them. Combine them with simple garment shapes and you can have a garment that is not only interesting to knit but also fun to wear.
The fronts and back are worked separately, then joined at the shoulders and sides. The seams at the shoulders are exposed on the right side but could easily be worked so the seam is at the wrong side.
The pattern along the front edges and center of the back are worked at the same time as the rest of the body, then when you’re about 3 1/2” (9 cm) from the finished length, the pennant pattern is turned using short-rows. To finish each piece, the panel is joined to the remaining stitches using short-rows and joined-as-you-go until only the panel stitches remain.
There are no sleeves here, just side shaping along the sides of the body to create the extended shoulders. A narrow band of stockinette edges the armholes.
