The rigaudon (aka “rigodon” in French) is an old folk dance in both Dauphiné and southern Alps in France, that probably dates from the 17th century. It is a dance with a lively duple metre that features hopping steps to be done to a joyful music.

Rigodon is a modified drop-sleeved cardigan worked from the bottom up in a two-color slip stitch pattern very easy to remember evoking these hopping steps. It is mosaic knitting: one color per row technique.

Sleeves are picked up around armholes and knit down to the cuffs back and forth (sleeve cap) then in the round. Directions for either girl’s or boy’s buttonholes are provided

• Shown in 18 mo, in Drops Alpaca (MC: #7240, petrol mix) and Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles (CC: budgie).
• 6 sizes: 18 mo, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 yrs. Finished chest: 22.5(24¼, 25, 26, 27, 28) in / 57 (62, 63.5, 66, 69, 71.5) cm.
• Materials & notions: 3.0 mm circular needles, 3.0 mm dpns, 4 (4, 5, 5, 5, 6) 5/8” (15 mm) buttons, 4 markers, 3.0 mm hook (optional).
• Gauge: 32 sts x 57 rows (slip stich patt, knit flat) and 27 sts x 35 rnds in st st (circular, MC).
• Techniques: knitting in the round, slip-st knitting, increases, decreases, picking up sts, 3-needle BO.
• Required yardage: 3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4) balls of MC and 1 skein of CC - see table opposite for approx yardage.

Le rigodon ou rigaudon est une ancienne danse folklorique du Dauphiné et des Alpes du Sud en France, datant vraisembablement du XVIIe siècle. C’est une danse à deux temps qui s’exécute sur un air vif et gai et qui demande aux participants de danser en sautillant d’un pied sur l’autre.

Rigodon est un cardigan à emmanchures droites encastrées tricoté de bas en haut avec un point bicolore très facile à mémoriser et qui évoque ces sautillements. On ne tricote qu’une seule couleur par rang (mosaic knitting).

Les manches sont remontées sur les emmanchures, et travaillées d’abord en aller et retour pour créer la tête de manche, puis en rond vers le poignet. Le patron inclut les explications pour un boutonnage “fille ou garçon”.

• Présenté en 18 mois, en Alpaca de Drops (CP : coloris 7240, pétrole mix) et en Skinny Singles de Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles (CC, coloris budgie).
• 6 tailles: 18 mois, 2, 3, 4, 5 et 6 ans. Tour de poitrine du cardigan : 57 (62, 63.5, 66, 69, 71.5) cm.
• Fournitures : aig. circulaires no 3, aig. double-pointe no 3 , 4 (4, 5, 5, 5, 6) boutons de 14/15 mm de diamètre, 4 marqueurs, un crochet no 3 (en option).
• Echantillon : 32 m. x 57 rgs (point de mailles glissées en aller-retour) et 27 m. x 35 rgs en jersey (en rond, CP).
• Techniques : tricot en rond, mailles glissées, augm., dim., relever des mailles, fermeture à 3 aig.
• Fil nécessaire : 3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4) pelotes de CP et 1 écheveau de CC - voir tableau ci-contre.
