The day is approaching when I look into my closet and announce to the world, or my pets, “I have too many garter stitch shawls!” I’m not there yet but the time has come to knit proactively. Rikaart transforms everything I love about garter stitch shawls into a light, versatile cowl through the magic of multidirectional knitting.

Rikaart was originally designed to be knit with a six color, mini skein, gradient set. However, it quickly became obvious to me that I had created an ideal vehicle for stash-busting and color experimentation. I’ve included a coloring page to help you plan modifications to the number of colors used, and to facilitate optimum color placement. Be mindful of yardage when altering the color handling set out in the pattern though, and always err on the side of having too much yarn whenever possible. Who knows, your leftovers might become your next Rikaart cowl!

6 colors x 80 yards = 480 yards at gauge
