One afternoon at my LYS (Serial Knitters of Kirkland, WA) in search of the perfect 4th color, one skein after another was taken off the shelf, placed next to the original 3 colors, and rejected. After seemingly exhausting all the colors, we finally looked at the reject pile and collectively gasped at the riot of color. I immediately thought, “I need to knit that!” (The original pattern idea and colors have long been forgotten.) What do you do with 7 beautiful colors where removing 1 makes the whole less? This is where idea of the Riotous Wrap was born.

The wrap is knit in a loose gauge to accentuate the drape and the beauty of the Shibui Staccato yarn and to maximize the 50g skeins.

The wrap is knit in the round with a drop stitch section to create the fringe. Eyelet contrast rounds and Vikkel (lateral) Braid rounds create visual interest and break up knit only rounds. Provisional cast on is used to match finishing on both long edges of the wrap. Picot Bind Off is used to create visual interest and a stretchy long edge.

There’s no purl. There are 7 colors and no color stranding.

Size: The pattern is one size for “Tall Girl”. It is easily modified for length and width. Guidance for modifications are included in the pattern.

Techniques: knit, yarn over, knit 2 together, slip stitch, knit through the back loop, cable cast on, provisional cast on, working in the round on circular needles.

Yardage: The pattern as written and matching gauge uses 50g each of 6 main colors and 50g of 1 contrasting color. Yarn selection and gauge will change the yardage required.
