Rioux
I designed this original piece specially for the Pure Laine 2022 Advent Calendar and now it’s available independently!
Enjoy 25% off at checkout until March 7, 2023.
I always name my patterns after places in Newfoundland & Labrador and Rioux is a section of the Trailway just outside of Clarenville, Newfoundland. But it’s also the name of a town in France! The centrepiece of Rioux in France is the Roman church, Église Notre-Dame de Rioux. And Roman churches are particularly well known for the use of corbel tables in their architecture. I tried to capture the 3-D corbel tables used in the church architecture in the 2-D Fair Isle wedges that support the centrepiece of the Rioux shawl.
And while it may look like there is steeking or flat colourwork involved, there is NONE! The Fair Isle is knit in the round so that the right side of the colourwork is always showing. No floats showing and no cutting ✨✨✨✨✨✨
Charts also include the written instructions.

Fair Isle: 25 sts and 31 rnds to 10cm / 4” with size B needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles and Notions
The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
Size A: 3.25mm (US 3) for lace sections and single‐colour St st rounds; you will need one 100cm / 40” long circular or a set of DPNs for the centre lace; two 80cm / 32” long (or longer) circulars for single‐colour St st rounds in the Fair Isle bands.
Size B: 3.75mm (US 5) for Fair Isle bands; you will need two 80cm / 32” long (or longer) circulars for the Fair Isle bands.
You will also need: spare needles or interchangeable cables for holding sts, stitch markers, removable markers, blocking pins or lace wires.
