Ripley Shrug
This started as the sleeve design for a sweater pattern of mine and I quickly decided I needed a shrug version ASAP! This shrug knits up super fast on big needles with bulky yarn. The braided cables are my favorite, and the dropped stitches take the sleeves from hey to YAY! A killer ribbed neckline with an option for a folded turtleneck or mock neck, because we all need options, and you’re done! But turtlenecks are my fave obsession…
It’s such a great layering piece for almost every season. The sleeves offer good air circulation while eliminating the chill, and the vibe is “I love a big chunky sweater” when it’s not big chunky sweater season yet. Ever get cold in the movie theater or a diner? This is perfect when the air is jacked and you need a little something.
By knitting just the sleeves and a neckband without a back and front allows this shrug to fit a variety of body sizes, and you can further customize the fit by knitting the sleeves shorter or longer. If you have large upper arms or are blessed with a large chest, only seam the sleeves up to the elbow. For smaller arms, sew further up the arm.
