We had spent the November day I dreamt up this pattern driving up and down the shore of Lake Superior, and there was a strong offshore wind, creating these ripples on the surface of the already riled up lake, and that’s how the name was born.

To create the vision I had, I stacked some yarn overs in a way that created a wave of them up the headband, giving a ripple effect. I also wanted the same ease of the ditch-the stitch marker style of some of my other patterns, like the Gales of November. I am so pleased with how it turned out.

I wear this type of headband 3 seasons out of the year in northeast Minnesota. It’s perfect for snowshoeing on a warmer winter day, or cold morning walks in spring and fall. The headband is knit in the round from the bottom up. The pattern is written for one size but is quite stretchy and should fit most head sizes from teen and up.
