Ripples & Linen Placemats
This oval placemat has a beautiful textured look. Geometric, woven-look linen stitch is broken by 2 bands of fan stitches using extra-tall double crochets, inspired by ripply water at the beach here in Nova Scotia. The edges are smooth and rounded, a simpler and cleaner look than some of my more scallop-edged borders. Also unlike most of my oval placemats, it uses regular crochet (not Tunisian) throughout; you only need one hook, between 3.25 and 4mm depending on your yarn. Two full sets of instructions are given, for fingering and sport weight, with yarn suggestions and finished measurements for specific yarns I’ve used (Rainbow cotton by Hobbii, Sultan cotton by Hobbii, and my favourite - Cotton Pure by Purl Soho). A hand-dyed yarn would be beautiful here and I’ve including an example in fingering weight in the pattern; any fingering weight cotton or linen could easily be substituted. This summer pattern is free until September - enjoy!
