This snug-fitting cowl features a beginner-friendly stranded motif bordered on both sides by easy 2x2 ribbing. Knit using worsted-weight yarn, it will fly off your needles. The sample was knit in a single afternoon!

The design evokes the James River at dusk, with the peachy golden ripples from the sunset on the dark green water.

This knit, with its small pattern repeat, lends itself well to height and circumference modifications. Add stitches in a multiple of 4 to maintain both the rib and stranded patterns. Work as many additional vertical repeats as desired, stopping when you are about 2” (5 cm) away from the desired height.

Be aware that changing the number of repeats will also change the yarn requirements.

Materials Needed:
Yarn:
145 yards of main color (green in sample) and 90 yards of second, contrasting color smooth worsted weight yarn (peach in sample)
Sample knit in Barnyard Knits Worsted (MC) and Madelinetosh Vintage (CC).

Needles:
Size 7 US/ 4.5 mm 16” (41 cm) circular needle or size needed to achieve gauge

Notions:
Stitch marker to mark beginning of round
Tapestry needle

Measurements:
Gauge: 20 sts and 24 rounds equals 4”/ 10 cm in stranded pattern after light blocking

Finished Dimensions:
Height: 10” (25 cm) from cast on to bind off edges
Circumference: 20” (50 cm)
