I’ve had an obsession with tulip flowers since I was a child. I can’t tell you what exactly drew me in, but I think it might have had something to do with all the different bright colors and the flower’s interesting shape. I prefer tulips to every other flower, even as far as planting some Queen of the Night and Black Parrot varieties in our backyard. This cowl is inspired quite literally by my obsession for tulips.

I designed this cowl to be worked top down, in stranded colorwork, with fingering weight yarn. I used a more rustic yarn, as it is my preference when working colorwork patterns, but you can use any three colors of fingering weight yarn for this pattern. You can even go through your left overs bin if you have some yardage left over, as the most yardage you will need for one color is 150 yds.

There are two sizes for the pattern, Adult, Child and Toddler, with dimensions included below, which is perfect for a parent/child matching moment.
Finished Dimensions: Adult - 9 inches tall by 27 inches wide (bottom width); Toddler - 7 inches tall by 17 inches wide (bottom width); Child - 7 inches tall by 21.5 inches wide (bottom width)

This pattern is for anyone who has wanted to try colorwork, but maybe hasn’t taken the plunge yet.
