The Rivendell Shawl was inspired by the earthy and ethereal style of Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. It is an advanced beginner level shawl that incorporates large sections of even chains joined by single crochets that create a stacked lace effect within the shawl, while also making a larger architectural design. Once set up, it uses an easy 6 row repeat that can be continued until the size desired is reached.

This shawl can be customized in size depending on what is desired. The sample shawl with suggested yarn, using 550 yards, has a wing span of 44 inches and a depth of 24 inches.

The gauge of this shawl is a 4 inch square with 18 double crochet stitches in 8 rows.

For this shawl I used 550 yards (1 skein and a half) of Baby Bee Sweet Delight, which is a 3 weight yarn. If a larger size is desired, more yarn will be needed. This shawl was made using a 4.0 mm crochet hook.
