The River Dream motif for these mittens was inspired by the intricate geometric patterns from the shamanic textiles of the Indians in the Amazon basin of Peru. I wanted to capture a design that reflected both the river and the dreams and songs that give rise to the textile designs so each mitten mirrors the other. The variegated blue yarn adds depth to the design. Put the two mittens together and see the complete design.

Made with worsted weight or DK yarn, River Dreams mittens are a quick, easy knit. The mittens have stranded cuff with a short ribbed border, while the thumb has a Selbu type gusset. The pattern directions include easy to follow charts, photos, and written instructions.

Length (ribbing included) - 11 inches (27.5 cm)

Gauge
6 stitches and 6 rows = 1 inch (2.5 cm) in stranded work

Note: gauge is tighter than normal for worsted weight yarn
If gauge is too difficult to get with worsted weight yarn, use DK or sport weight.

US#8 (5mm) DPN (set of 5)
Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain proper gauge.
