Inspired by the Spokane River, a river running through the heart of my new hometown, Riverfront Mitts are an ode to embracing the flow of change. Twisted stitches and cabling create a river, while larger cables on the sides mimic the folds and shifts of hill topography. Worked in the round on a reverse stockinette background, these fingerless mittens begin and end with twisted ribbing. They are a fun small project to learn new techniques or to revisit techniques you already know!

Spokane River is located in the ancestral lands of the Spokane Tribe, Kalispel Tribe and Ktunaxa Nation. 25% of sales from these mitts will be contributed (split 3 ways) to these tribes/nations on a quarterly basis.

Skill Level:
Adventurous beginner to intermediate.

Techniques Used:
Cables, twisted stitches, twisted ribbing, knitting in the round.

Sizes
Small (Medium, Large) to fit palm circumference: 7 (7.5, 8) in / 18 (19, 20) cm.
Mitts shown are in size Small with approx 0.5 in of negative ease.

Finished Measurements
Palm circumference: 6.5 (7, 7.5) in / 16.5 (18, 19) cm.
Length: 6.5 in / 16.5 cm.

Yarn
Quince & Co’s Chickadee (100% American wool, 181 yd (166 m) per 50g skein).
Show in Larimar (Chickadee Organic Heathers).
One skein OR approx 150 yd / 137 m sport weight or light DK yarn.

I suggest a solid or low-contrast tonal yarn to bring out the stitch definition of the cables.

Needles
US #3 / 3.25 mm OR needle size to obtain the correct gauge.
Choose your preferred method for small circumference knitting: DPNs, magic loop, small circumference circular needles, etc.

Notions
Stitch markers, cable needles (optional), waste yarn, and a tapestry needle.

Gauge
30 sts and 37 rnds = 4 in / 10 cm in reverse stockinette stitch in the round after blocking.
