Four stitch patterns evoke bricks laid in standard order, in herringbone chevrons, and in a fancy mosaic. The textured stitch is a simple pattern of knits and purls; the colourwork is done with slipped stitches, making it easy enough for a new knitter to accomplish; the lace is a non-threatening 6-stitch, 4-row repeat, but if you feel daunted by the thought of knitting lace or want a completely solid fabric, replace it with an easy knit-purl chevron stitch that has the same 6-stitch, 4-row repeat. Instructions are included for three widths and three lengths, so you can knit a scarf for a child, one to tuck inside a coat collar, one to wind several times around your neck, or one that doubles as a wrap. Instructions are also included for an asymmetrical, triangular shawl, with single increases every right-side row providing the shaping. Lots of choices!
