Riverwood Hat
This pattern will be 25% off with code “giftalong2024” from Thursday, 11/21 at 5 pm EST to Wednesday, 11/27 at 11:59 pm EST.
The unisex Riverwood Hat is part of the Woodland Walk Kit collaboration—a celebration with other Utah makers of the return of our local Great Basin Fiber Arts Fair. Beginning with a crisp twisted-rib brim, the design moves into a woodland-inspired texture pattern made from small cables, ending with elegant crown decreases. A new merino/silk/yak blend yarn from Yarn Nouveau gives beautiful muted color, softness, and drape.
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
Yarn Nouveau Yak DK — 60% merino / 20% silk / 20% yak — 231 yds (211 m) to 100 g per skein. Shown in size L on adult (colorway Riverwood) and in size S/M on child (colorway Cinder). Yardage estimates include an approximate 10% cushion for gauge differences.
Yardage per size —
S/M: 140 yds (128 m)
L: 180 yds (165 m)
Sizing (unstretched):
S/M: 17” (43 cm) around body of hat and 8.5” (22 cm) high, to fit head sizes 21-22” (53.5-56 cm).
L: 18.5” (47 cm) around body of hat and 9” (23 cm) high, to fit head sizes 23-24” (58.5-61 cm).
Yak DK will relax more in blocking and wearing than yarns with an all-wool fiber composition.*
Blocked Gauge:
26 sts and 32 rounds over 4” (10 cm) on larger needle in Main Body Pattern, worked in the round and blocked.
PLEASE NOTE: Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions and to ensure enough yarn, be sure to use needle size that gives gauge.
Needles:
US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needles in 16” (40 mm) lengths, with US 5 (3.75 mm) DPNs for crown.
Samples were worked with US 5 (3.75 mm) and US 6 (4 mm) needles but as I tend to knit fairly tightly, I’ve listed needles one size smaller.
Other Materials:
11 (12) stitch markers (one distinct to mark beginning of round), cable needle in appropriate size, tapestry needle.
