RNG-3 Shawl
This easy-to-knit shawl pattern will create a unique and one-of-a-kind shawl using random number generated selections to knit the different bands of the shawl. It is worked from the right upper (cast-on) edge to the left lower (cast-off) edge. You may use any random number generating device: Dice, slips of paper pulled from a hat, a computer-generated random integer program (like www.random.org), or any other method you wish to use. Each section will tell you how many options are available. You simply follow the instructions for the randomly selected option to knit your shawl.
The shawl is cast on at one corner and is shaped into a slightly asymmetrical triangle by the use of increases and decreases along the edge.
Multiple different versions can be knit using this pattern. It’s a great way to use up smaller amounts of yarn or plan for a stash-busting project. The pattern is written for fingering (sock) weight yarns.
You will need approximately 425 yards each of 1 light, 1 medium and 1 dark colorway of a fingering weight yarn. You do not necessarily need to use the same yarn base, but do choose yarns that have similar yardage/weight put-ups.
