On a long road trip in country New South Wales, it’s the unique flora and the architectural details of beautiful old buildings you can stumble across in sleepy towns that stick with me. This shawl evokes some of those elements - architecture from a beautiful convent building (colour work) and waratah, the star of the NSW flora (lacework).

The pattern is written for a large shawl in four colours (200 x 90 cm when blocked) or a small shawl in three colours (135cm x 60 cm when blocked). The patterns are written as recipes with the key information in the notes.

The pattern includes stranded colour worked from a chart. Note there are some long gaps between colours. Catch the yarn floats in your knitting regularly being careful not to pull the strands too tight.

The lace section is also provided as a chart (only). A picot cast off is provided to give points to the lace pattern.

Note the PDF is an A3 sheet to accomodate the lace chart.

The shawl is designed for 4 ply yarn.
The large sample is worked in Malabrigo sock (Light of love, Ravelry red) and Hedgehog Fibres Sock

The small sample is worked in Woolen Boon skinny (Smoothie Queen, Forever, Dirty chai).
