Page 4, BEAK: After round 10, knit round 11 – 15, then break yarn and go on as described.

A penguin chatting with a walrus in the Arctic? Of course! Meet curious Roald who wanted to get to know all the interesting animal friends in the far north! The travel genes run in his family: His grand-grand-grand-granddad was the first penguin reaching the south pole – working as an adviser for Roald Amundsen. Ever since all first born in the penguin family are christianed Roald in honour of the great explorer.

Choose any yarn you like – Roald will be bigger or smaller depending on the yarn. If you knit Roald for a child, make sure the yarn is robust, washable and doesn’t pill too much.
The pattern will lead you step-by-step through the knitting and sewing. Additionally, you’ll find instructions for the more elaborate techniques used.

This pattern was first published in my book “Steffis wunderbare Tierwelt”, which literally means “Steffi’s wonderful Animal Kingdom”. There is only a German version of the book available so far, and I don’t believe there will ever be an English version of the book (alas, I hope I’m wrong!), so I will translate some of the animals and publish the pattern on ravelry.

Enjoy knitting Roald – he is a fast knit and a wonderful present for your intrepid friends traveling the world,
yours Steffi
