The postman legend of why the Robin is so popular at Christmas is that in Britain, postmen used to wear red tunics and were popularly known as “robins”. As a result many early Christmas cards pictured a robin knocking at the door or carrying a Christmas card in its beak.

This pattern is worked both in the round and in rows and I use abbreviations according to US crochet language. I can provide the pattern in UK crochet language if preferred, please just contact me.

The finished Robin is approximately 3.25” (8.5cm) tall and 4.25” (10.5cm) long. The robin would make a wonderful table or mantle-piece decoration or would be ideal for perching on a branch on the Christmas tree.

Tools Needed:
3.5mm (US size E) crochet hook
scissors
yarn needle

Yarn Needed:
DK acrylic yarn in brown, white, red and tan brown.

Other Materials Needed:
polyester/toy stuffing
1 pair of 5mm black safety eyes
very small piece of brown felt
15cm (6”) pipe-cleaner (preferably brown)
