Rock Pocket Vegetable/Fruit Bag
This is one of the more fun patterns I have ever worked on. This one pattern has multiple variations … just change the yarn colors and your bag is different.
And don’t you just LOVE the way it looks like a smooth and colorful river rock when the bag is inside the pocket?
My first bag I made from Hobby Lobby “I Love This Cotton.” When I put some apples in it, and hung it on a kitchen chair, it stretched to the floor.
WHOOPS! Had to go with a thinner, yet just as strong yarn. That’s when I found the Cotton-ish and it worked PERFECT for the bases I wanted. Then, for the bag itself, I used Sensations Caribbean . . which I found out was discontinued. No worries . . I just used multiple colors of the Cotton-ish for the bag and, to be honest, I think I like these bags better.
Finally, I wanted a “classier” looking bag as a gift for a friend (the rest are going to be Christmas presents). I used some cotton yarn I received from a European friend in a swap … with I could tell you what it was, but the labels are long gone.
Originally, I bought 5 colors of Cotton-ish. They made all of the bags shown plus two I have given away and I have enough left to make at least one more full bag. So your yarn goes a LONG way in this pattern.
Some bags are larger, due to using a G hook, or adding a couple more Rnds before fastening off. But, personally, I prefer the smaller bags because they hold so much and STRETCH more than you will believe.
