Rock Salt Wrap
Check out the matching Rock Salt Beanie too! If you want to!
The Rock Salt Wrap is a wide, lush wrap knit from worsted-weight yarn, though you could easily knit it in aran or sockweight instead. The design has a few natural stopping points, making it an appealing project for those who might want to customize it—add a repeat for a longer scarf.
With the salt-crystal-reminiscent shape of mitered squares used for texture, this wrap echoes the Rock Salt Beanie.
Materials:
- ~520-550 yards of soft worsted-weight scrap yarn
- 1 40” circular needle in US 8-9/5.0-5.5mm or size needed for gauge. A flexible cable is nice to have.
- Optional: a shorter circular needle in size needed for gauge; this makes the smaller squares and early work in the round a little easier.
- Crochet hook, USG or 4.0mm, for cast-ons (this crochet cast-on is not provisional!)
- Tapestry needle
- Removable stitch marker(s), optional, apply as needed
Gauge:
Gauge is 16 sts and 28 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge!
Measurements:
As shown, this wrap measures 58”/1.47m long by 14”/36cm wide.
Notes:
This is a design around scraps! There are a lot of points where it makes sense to change colors (and the pattern includes a lot of line drawings, so you could easily color those in to see how you’d like to lay things out), but since I was using legitimate leftovers, there’s no real colorwork element in the instructions. I just grabbed almost 600 yards of blues and greens, and ended up using ~520 yards of it.
