The Rock the Casbah shawl is a breathtaking piece that draws inspiration from the intricate patterns and vibrant colors of Moroccan tiles. Crafted with a blend of soft, luxurious yarns, the shawl features an array of geometric motifs that dance across its surface, echoing the rich artistry of traditional Moroccan design.
Remarkably, the only stitches used are the classic knit and purl (with a knit front and back as the increase), showcasing the beauty and versatility of these fundamental techniques. This simplicity allows the beautiful mosaic patterns to emerge, creating a stunning effect highlighting the knitter’s skill.
Yarn: Emma’s Yarn Super Silky (80% Superwash Merino/20% silk, 400yards/100grams)
Color One (C1): Navy Blazer - 570 yards (blue)
Color Two (C2): Wing It - 175 Yards (multi-color)
Color Three (C3): Whisper - 200 Yards (white)
For the best results, the C1 and C3 are used in the mosaic section and should have high contrast with NO color overlap.
Needles: US 4/3.5mm, 24” or 32” circular needle
Notions: Stitch Markers, T-pins and blocking wires for blocking
Gauge: 24 sts = 4 inches in Garter & 26 sts = 4 inches in Tiles after steam blocking. Although gauge is not crucial for this project, it will affect the finished size and yarn requirements. A looser gauge will result in the use of more yarn.
Finished Size: 42” x 42” x 60” after blocking.
Bonus Pattern Included
I started this design with 4 colors and a larger garter section with less mosaic patterning. I loved it and decided to include this as a bonus!!!

Color Three (C3): Buttonwood - 175 Yards (yellow)
Color Four (C4): Sea Me Now - 175 Yards (turquoise)
