Rockaway Beach Shell

Note: This top is 100% reversible - front to back and also can be worn inside out (providing that you use a mattress stitch for invisible side seams). The sample photo is actually showing the ws of the fabric which I happen to prefer!
This simply elegant top is worked flat in one piece in a nearly seamless manner. What a fun way to construct a sweater or top! Simply fold it over when done and stitch up the side seams. The stitch pattern is easy to memorize and makes a great take-a-long knitting project.
Rockaway Beach Shell is versatile enough to be worn as a casual summer top or as a dressy layer under a jacket or sweater. It’s perfect for a business meeting or for a stroll along the beach.
Style points include lots of texture, a notched hemline, loose cap sleeves, boat neck, and a hip skimming length that flatters just about any figure type.
Rockaway Beach Shell is named after a quaint little community on the northern Oregon Coast where my family used to go in late summer after the harvest was in. The stitch pattern reminds me of the wheat just gathered in and of the tall beach grasses blowing in the wind on the path to the edge of the ocean.
