The Roe deer mitts are the newest member of my animal mitts collection and a wonderful and fun knitting pattern to knit.

While knitting the mitts you only knit with two colours at ones at all times. The black details for eyes and nose and the darker accents in the deers face, you will add later with duplicate stitch.

Material:

Yarn:
Approximately 180 yards/ 160 m fingering/ sock weight yarn main colour
Approximately 100 yards/ 90 m fingering/sock weight yarn  first contrast colour
Approximately 100 yards/90 m fingering/ sock weight yarn in second contrast colour
Scrap yarn in black and brown for embroidering the eyes, nose and darker accents in the face.

Other notions:
Darning needle
stitch marker
scrap yarn

Needles:
US 1/2,25 mm DPNs or circular needles for magic loop technique or needle size to obtain gauge.
US 1,5/2,5 mm needles for a bigger size.

Gauge: 38 stitches and 36 rows = 10 cm in stranded knitting in the round after blocking.
Notice that the size of your mitts will change if you do not achieve gauge.

Size and finished measurements:
Measurements after blocking!
15 cm/ long
17 cm in circumstance

If you wish your mitts to be bigger, go up one or two needle sizes.
Note that you will need a bit more yarn, if knitting the mitts in a different gauge than described above.
