Rogue River is a quick and easy cowl with simple striping and a mosaic band that looks impressive but is really just slipped stitches and uses only one color per row!

It’s so much fun to work the colorwork in a gradient yarn and it’s also a great way to use up stash and leftover yarn.

Choose between easy stockinette all the way or try working the contrast color in garter stitch (knit on both sides, which is even easier!) and watch the texture truly pop out on the colorwork.

Rogue River is worked on the bias from one end to the other, starting with just 3 stitches, and is only slightly asymmetrical. The I-Cord edges are worked as you go so there’s no finishing to do and the bind off is also I-Cord.

The superior fit of the cowl is due to the angled edges at the back neck. The angles are then seamed or you can optionally add loops and buttons for additional versatility in wearing.

The pattern is written for heavy fingering or sport weight yarn but it can be made in any weight. Size and yarn usage will vary with differences in gauge.

Instructions are included for how to read the mosaic colorwork charts and there’s also a link to a Mosaic instructional video by Felicia Wong of Sweet Georgia.

INSPIRATION: The Rogue River in Oregon flows about 215 miles from the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean and is known for whitewater rafting, rugged scenery and salmon fishing. Do you see the raging river in the design?
