This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004).

“R.O.H.” is a skinny textured scarf. Two colors blend in the textured stitch section in the middle, creating a beautiful transition from one color to the other. The edges of the scarf are slanted and the textured stitches in two colors flow parallel to the edge.

What does “R.O.H.” stand for?

It is an abbreviation of my brother’s Japanese book title, “Radical Oral History: Historical Practice of Indigenous Australians.” It is based on his PhD thesis and he finished writing it a few days before his passing. It was published a few months after and has become a long selling academic book for many different fields of studies.

In response to the wide range of applications of my brother’s work, I also knitted with 12 colors of Tosh Sock leftovers.

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork.
