Rohan Banner Double-Knit Scarf
“For though Sauron had passed, the hatred and evils he bred had not died, and the King of the West had many enemies to subdue before the White Tree could grow in peace. And wherever King Elessar went with war King Éomer went with him; and beyond the Sea of Rhûn and on the far fields of the South the thunder of the cavalry of the Mark was heard, and the White Horse upon Green flew in many winds until Éomer grew old.” - Appendix A, II: The House of Eorl; LOTR.
This chart is based on the banner of Rohan, or as the Rohirrim call their country, the Mark of the Riders. There are Celtic knot motifs on the middle and the ends of the scarf, with two horse profiles facing each other between. I have begun my own scarf, and hope to be sharing progress photos soon. Meanwhile, I present this chart to you with my best wishes for your knitting success. Forth Eorlingas!!!
Notes:
The chart is 50 stitches wide & 430 rows long.
Gauges will vary, but I suggest #3 needles and between 600-800 yards of Sport Weight yarn (size 2) in each color. I am using #4 needles for a width of 8.5 inches.
