NOTES The DK #3 Eastport Alpaca yarn works well on the mid-gauge machine. Try stitch size 4-7 to match gauge. The yarn is fuzzy so it tends to require a larger stitch size than a smooth yarn of similar weight. It lofts wonderfully after hand washing. Other DK or sport weight yarn may be substituted. You may need a different stitch size to get the gauge. Have 6 oz. of yarn on hand.

The samples were knitted on the Artisan A 70-D. Gauge is 6 stitches/8.5 rows per inch. The plain hat finishes to 21.5” in circumference, the cabled hat to 20.5”. The difference is to the fact that a few nee- dles across the same span of needles are out of work in the cabled hat. The cable also pulls the fabric in slightly. Before considering the project complete, items, knitted in alpaca should be hand washed and air dried to allow the fabric to achieve its full potential
