This is a pattern appropriate even for beginners and the stitches and techniques used include: single crochet, slip stitch, single crochet in back loops only, magic ring, single crochet 2 together, and single crochet 2 together in back loops only. Suggested colors and yarn brands are listed but any color and any yarn will work, provided you have the correct gauge.
