A hot day in the Roman Empire, the air trembles with the heat. Mostly there is no shade, only here and there the Mediterranean pines give a bit of relief for the traveler.
Stop walking and listen, from far away you begin to hear the sound of hundreds of sandals of a Roman legion that approaches. The wagon wheels clatter on the stones. Step aside and take a break in the shade while the men pass by.

These mittens use a simple pattern which reminds me of the cobblestones. Knit them in several sizes and colors and they will keep the hands of the whole family warm. Not too simple and not too feminine, you will be surprised how quickly they knit up and they fit perfectly for both men and women.
The mittens are worked from the cuff up and they have an Indian thumb gusset.
