Roomy Felted Knitting & Crochet Tote Bag
When my local yarn shop had a sale, I was able to get small amounts of organic merino bulky weight yarn in five different colors. I needed a new knitting/crochet tote bag so I decided to use the yarn for that.
I am primarily a knitter but I do enjoy Tunisian Crochet, especially the Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) and I think it makes a terrific dense fabric just ripe for felting into a purse or tote. Unlike felted knitting, which results in a smooth fabric, when you felt a fabric made with the TSS, you create a lovely textured fabric.
Because I’m a knitter, I approach Tunisian Crochet from a knitter’s point of view and the design for my Roomy Knitting & Crochet Tote Bag reflects that. However, if you prefer, you can approach the pattern in the customary way.
The tote bag is worked up in separate pieces, then sewn together and felted. I added a lovely quilted fabric lining and the opening is secured with hook and loop tape.
If you’ve never done the TSS before, I encourage you to give it a try. I’ve included detailed instructions in this pattern.
As with all my designs, I’m available to answer any questions that may come up as you work on your tote.
