PATTERN NOTES
The gnome is knit from the base of the body to the top of the hat. Stitches are cast-on using a crochet provisional cast-on with waste yarn to allow the gnome to be stuffed.
The hat features an Estonian knitted braid, Kihnu vits, and Roosimine inlay patterns in a contrasting colour. Video tutorials for these techniques are included in the pattern.
The base of the body also features a Kihnu vits.
The waste yarn provisional cast-on is taken out and those stitches placed back onto needles to finish the base. Before completing the base, the gnome is stuffed.
The base is finished by decreasing in a similar fashion to crown shaping on a hat.
The nose and beard knit are knit separately, then sewn onto the body. The beard is knit as a flat garter stitch piece that is attached along the edge of the hat. The nose which is knit in the round is then sewn onto the beard.

Changing the weight of yarn or holding yarn double will change the finished size of your gnome. Heavier weight yarn and larger needles will produce a larger gnome, while finer yarn with smaller needles will produce a smaller gnome because of gauge.
