This design means so much to me and I hope it will to you all as well.

When I started making Roots, I knew I wanted to create a modern spin on a (half) Shetland hap design, but the process of making Roots changed me as a designer and a person on a foundational level.

It’s a shawl that says be intentional & slow down.

To not only create, but to do so with passion and a focus on wasting less. To use what you can create with your hands. To not follow the trend of any given moment but to slow everything down. To ask yourself the questions: what do I need, what do I wear, what will I be proud of in years to come?

Roots was the start of all of this for me, and I think it can be for you, too.

If you’re a beginner, this pattern is a great introduction to shawl knitting: there may be a couple of new-to-you techniques, but you should get along just fine!

Go wild with yarn colors!
You’ll need 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn, in 3 coordinating colors: 2 skeins of a main color, and one skein each of 2 colors.
