This pattern includes two version, the Viking Cat Hat and the Ropes and Ribs fitted beanie, each in 3 sizes, Small (18 - 19” head circumference), Medium (20 - 21” head circumference) and Large (22 - 23” head circumference).

You will also receive access to an online calculator to make a custom size based on head measurements. It is also useful if you wish to use a slightly different weight yarn or are having trouble making gauge. (This is intended for advanced crocheters.)

This comprehensive photo tutorial pattern (15 pages, 105 photos, 15.49MB) includes both versions. You’ll also receive 2 supplements, one for chainless foundation rows (5 pages, 40 photos, 3.59MB) and one for HDC ribbing (2 pages, 14 photos, 2.55MB). You will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader or PDF-XChange to view the files.

Color changes are left to the discretion of the crocheter, one to four colors can be used.

Materials:

• worsted yarn, 2x 100g skeins. A size small fitted beanie may be able to be made with one 100g/170 yard skein. A size small cat hat takes about 200 yards. Size medium fitted - 215 yards, cat hat - 235 yards. Size large fitted - 230 yards, cat hat - 250 yards.

• 5.0mm hook, (optional 5.5mm hook for last few rows of brim)

• Yarn needle

You need the following skills:

• slip stitch
• single crochet
• half double crochet
• double crochet
• triple crochet
• working front loop only
• controlling tension
• accuracy & attention to detail

It’s helpful if you are familiar with chainless foundation rows and HDC ribbing but not necessary, both are covered in the included supplements.

Although this pattern uses many stitches and techniques, everything is covered in great detail and is suitable for an intermediate crocheter or an advanced beginner who has mastered the required skills. More important than a specific experience level is patience and the ability to follow instructions.
