Ropes Scarf & Slouch Hat
This set was surprisingly fun to work. I wanted lots of fabric for the slouch because the fabric was so lightweight. It feels great on your head without binding at all and has wonderful drape. The scarf works up fast.
This was my first time working with Deborah Norville yarns and I loved it. This sock yarn feels just lovely while knitting, has saturated colors and is a terrific value. I will definitely work with it again both personally and for other designs.
Slouch
Worked in the round.
Gauge: 30 sts and 36 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch with larger needles
20” circumference at cast on edge when using smaller needles
Yardage: 374 yards
Scarf
Begins with a provisional cast on, each I-cord worked separately and then rejoined for flat sections, eventually seamed with Kitchener stitch. Each I-cord is worked separately and is one inch longer than the previous I-cord. The first set of I-cords is 4”, 5”, 6”, 7” and 8” and the second set of I-cords is 14”, 15”, 16”, 17” and 18”.
Yardage: 144 yards
The scarf can be worn with the short I-cords in the front (as first picture) or the long I-cords in front (last picture).
Keeping with their wording, here is a revision to the scarf portion of the pattern (changes in bold):
Rows 12-19: Work in St st (knit on RS, purl on WS). Rep Rows 4-19 three more times.
Next Row (RS): K6, place rem sts on waste yarn. (Delete second sentence.) Work I-cord on these 6 sts only for 4”. Place sts on separate waste yarn. Break yarn. On next 6 sts only, work in I-cord for 5”, place on waste yarn. Break yarn. On following 6 sts only, work in I-cord for 6”, place on waste yarn. Break yarn. On next 6 sts only, work in I-cord for 7”, place on waste yarn. Break yarn. On next 6 sts only, work in I-cord for 8”, place on waste yarn. Break yarn. Place all held sts back on needles in order. Join yarn, ready to work a RS row.
Repeat these changes when working the second set of I-cords, though the length of each I-cord is different than the first set. The first I-cord in the second set is 14”.
My blog post about this set is here.
