Inspired by beautiful dye work, this pattern is perfect for using and featuring the gorgeous variegated colors of a single sport skein, along with a complementary or contrasting solid or tonal worsted.

NOTA BENE:

• This pattern must be worked back and forth on a circular needle or a pair of double-pointed needles.
• The cowl is knit flat and seamed, with an optional crochet edging to conceal the seam. Knit flat, it requires minimal purling.
• The right side and the reverse are both attractive, making it perfect for a cowl.
• There is no need to cut your yarn between rows as you work.
• Only one color is used at a time, and the knitting technique creates both the texture and the color patterning, as well as a squishy, warm fabric.
• The swatch allows you to check your gauge, practice all the techniques of the pattern on a small scale, and results in a great teacher gift or small present for the holidays.

SIZING

• Swatch/Coffee Sleeve: fits a standard coffee cup; 9” circumference, 3.5” depth
• Child/Teen: loops once around the neck; 24” circumference, 7.5” depth
• Adult, single loop: loops once around the neck; 28” circumference, 9” depth
• Adult, double: loops twice around the neck; 63” circumference, 6.5” depth.

YARN

• color A: 1 (1, 1, 1) skein Neighborhood Fiber Co. Capital Luxury Sport, or approximately 25 (135, 165, 325) yds sport weight yarn.
• color B: 1 (1, 1, 1) skein Stonehenge Fiber Mill Shepherds Wool, or approximately 30 (135, 160, 250) yds worsted weight yarn.
• n.b.— 1 skein of Capital Luxury Sport is sufficient to make both the Child/Teen and the Adult, single loop cowls.

NEEDLES

US 8 / 5mm, 24” / 60cm or longer circular
US 5 / 3.75mm, 24” / 60cm or longer circular

NOTIONS/TOOLS

Darning needle
Removable stitch markers, in two colors (strongly recommended)
Size D / 3.25mm crochet hook (optional)

SKILLS

• Essential: knit and purl; cast on and bind off; seaming; weaving in ends;
• Acquired during the project for the adventurous beginning-to-intermediate knitter: tubular cast on and bind off; knit one below;
• Optional: crochet (single crochet, double crochet, chain).

The Adult, Single Loop sample was knit with Capital Luxury Sport in ’Fog Point’ (A) and Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Worsted in ’Edgewood’ (B).

The Child/Teen sample was knit with Capital Luxury Sport in ’Fog Point’ (A) and Shepherds Wool ‘Navy’ (B).
