Rosales
Rosales is a simple crescent designed with versatility in mind. A choice of three design elements can be worked in any order on a plain crescent background, creating a myriad of possibilities.
- Adaptable to any yardage, and a range of yarn weights from lace to DK.
- Can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with notes.
- Simple enough to be easily memorised.
- Optional beading included.
It knits up quickly in up to three colours, and the lace section shows off a speckled or variegated yarn beautifully.
In the sample:
Cajun Spice (brown)
Terracotta Sun (red)
Savannah (variegated)
My project notes can be found here.
Rosales is the order of flowering plants from which apple trees (and roses, and many other plants) descend. This shawl was inspired by a beautiful old apple tree outside my front windows. This tree marks the passing of seasons with a cloud of pale petals and hum of happy bees in spring, the scent of apples in summer, the thick carpet of leaves in the autumn, and starkly elegant branches in winter.
The shawl echoes this seasonal cycle with three parts, reminiscent perhaps of blossom, falling leaves, and winter’s rest.
