I wanted to design a rectangular shawl around this magnificent lace edging, found in Sharon Miller’s book ‘Heirloom Knitting’. The central pattern echoes the diamonds in the border but is much quicker to knit, and the tiny picot edging that finishes the long sides is simplest of all.
