All proceeds from the sale of this pattern will be donated to Animals Asia Foundation, an organization devoted to the welfare of wild and urban animals in Asia. I first became aware of this group’s efforts to rescue Asian Moon Bears being farmed for their bile when I was recruited to knit mittens for the bears. The mittens are used to help keep the bears warm when they undergo surgery to repair the damage done to them while being “farmed.”

These socks use the twined knitting technique (Tvåändsstickat) for faux turned-down cuff, ankle band, and heel flap. The diamond pattern on the leg and instep are simple knit/purl stitches that are not twined. In order to give the appearance of a turned-down cuff but avoid its bulkiness, the cuff is worked separately and bound off. Stitches are then picked up from inside its lower edge for the leg.
