Rotan Socks
Rotan means rattan in Bahasa Indonesia. There are many rattan craftsmen in Indonesia. I personally love the rattan weave motif’s texture. That motif inspired me to make a unisex sock design that will look great on solid, semi-solid, and less contrasting variegated yarn. You can choose ankle or regular mid-calf sock length.
DIFFICULTY
Intermediate to advanced.
YARN
Papiput Sock yarn (100 grams, 400 meters, 75% superwash merino – 25% nylon). I used 1 skein of Arang (grey-regular sock) and Agatis (beige-ankle sock).
NEEDLES
US-1.5 (2.5mm) knitting needles. 5 pcs of DPN set or 1 long circular needles for magic loop method. I personally used DPN set.
NOTIONS (optional)
5 stitch markers. 1 marker to mark the beginning of the round - I suggest to use different color or shape. 4 stitch markers will be used to mark the sides of Burlap Motif (center motif).
1 cable needle.
Tapestry needle for grafting the toe stitches.
GAUGE
Approx. 14 sts x 18 rows = 5 x 5cm (2 x 2”) in St st in the rnd, blocked, relaxed. It is fine if you could not find the similar gauge as mine because sock yarn is naturally flexible. I am a tight knitter. So if you are a loose knitter, please use 1 size down from the suggested needles.
TIPS
Use 1 size up from the suggested needles for men’s socks (US-2/2.75mm).
