The Rover Cowl is a companion to the Red Rover Mitts. Twisted stitches and wavy purl bumps create texture on a background of stockinette.

The stitch pattern was originally inspired by a skein of Madeline Tosh yarn called “Mars is Bright Tonight”. I wanted to recreate the Curiosity Rover tracks on the surface of Mars for my Red Rover fingerless mitts pattern. As this cowl pattern evolved a new image started to form; the wind swept dunes of the Martian landscape.

An homage to exploration Rover Cowl is a great light weight, layering piece to accompany you on all your earthly adventures. Be it camping in spring, backyard fires in autumn, or early morning hikes, this cowl is a great seasonal transition piece.

The variety of stitches creates textural interest and soft squishiness that is comfortable next to the skin. This cowl is a quick knit using DK weight yarn and the pattern looks great in tonal, solid, speckled or wildly variegated colours. A one-skein-wonder, this cowl is a great stash-buster!

Length and width are easily modified to suit your preferences, and the pattern repeat is short and easy to memorize.

I hope you love it and love making it!
