Rowanberry Girl
Design: I’ll be well prepared for snow and gails in this lovely Aran-sweater. As I detest cold winds that find the way up my back I made the ribbing longer on the back than on the front. The ribbing makes a curved line that adds a feminine and soft touch. Lovely cables with some lace and knots embellishes the front as well as the sleeves.
Contstruction: the sweater is knitted bottom-up and in the round to underarms for body as well as the sleeves. From underarms front, back and sleeve-caps are worked back-and-forth in separate pieces.
Sizes
Finished chest circumference: 90/100/110/120 cm = 35.5/39/43/47”
Materials
Yarn: I used Cascade Yarns “Cascade 220” Heathers, color 9425. This worsted weight yarn comes in skeins of 100 grams/3.53 oz. You will need 6/6/7/8 skeins of this specific yarn to work the pullover. Needles: For the ribbed hem and the main body you need a circular needle 4.5 mm/US7, 80 cm/36” long. For the sleeve cuff you need a set of dpns (or a circular needle, if working the magic loop) 3.5 mm/US4. For the main sleeve you need a set of dpns 4.5 mm /US7 (or a circular needle).
For the neckline you need a circular needle 3.5 mm/US4, 40 cm/18” long. Notions: cable needle, removable stitch-markers, separate holders, tapestry needle, blocking tools.
The pattern:
Knitting-skills: intermediate.
Please note that the garment is seamed (shoulders and setting-in the sleeves).
The cables are charted.
All necessary stitch-counts are given.
Measurements are in cm’s as well as in inches.
The aran-motif is easy to make, consists of cables, eyelets and knots - which I think of as Rowanberries! I love the result - a sweater to keep for many years! I always need one of those Aran’s ready to hand - for walking and outdoor life. My only regret is that I don’t have one in red, or cream, or grey….
