A pretty row of houses circles the calves in these stranded-color socks. They’re worked top-down with three colors of fingering weight/sock yarn.

Size: Adult medium (64 stitches)

Finished Measurements: About 7.5 inches/19 cm foot circumference will stretch to fit up to 9 inches/23 cm and about 8.5 inches/22 cm foot length

Materials:
--Main color (MC): 305 yds/280 m sock yarn; contrast color 1 (CC1): 24 yds/22 m sock yarn; contrast color 2 (CC2): 56 yds/52 m sock yarn. Sample shown was knit with Pigeonroof Studios High Twist Sock 100% superwash merino; 400 yds/366 m per 100g skein, colorway: Picholine (MC), and two colors of Pigeonroof Studios American Sock 100% superwash merino, selected from a one-of-a-kind naturally dyed gradient set of six colors (CC1 and CC2).

--US #1/2.25 mm set of 5 double-pointed needles (for lower leg and foot) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 16 sts/22 rnds = 2”/5 cm in stockinette stitch on smaller needles

Notes:
--This top-down sock pattern is written for four double-pointed needles, but other methods, such as Magic Loop, may be used instead.
--The toes are grafted using kitchener stitch; complete instructions are provided in the pattern.
--For a smaller size, try using smaller needles and/or light fingering weight yarn. For a larger size, substitute sportweight yarn and larger needles.

Level of difficulty: Intermediate. This pattern is a good introduction to stranded-color knitting. No more than two colors are used in any round.
