In addition to a comforting familiar friend, HugKnits Duckie can double as a puppet–the head is hollow–a great distraction tool for a fussy or bored baby. Hint: Older children love them too.

These directions are for the HugKnit Duckie + a bonus tutorial for picking up the stitches for the duckie. The blanket portion is knit flat in garter stitch for great tactile stimulation, duckie is knit in the round. Uses worsted weight yarn (make sure its washable); 200 yds Blue worsted weight, 100 yds Yellow worsted weight, 30 yds Orange worsted weight, 2 yds Black worsted weight yarn, 2 yds waste yarn. Also uses Kitchener Stitch and Duplicate Stitch. Easy peasie stuff for intermediate knitter. If you run into trouble, pattern support is always just an email away.
