The instructions for the beak aren’t very clear, but this is what I was trying to convey:

• decide where the beak should be, and make 4 sl sts horizontally into the fabric

• sc into the 2 middle sts of those 4 sts, then sl st the yarn back into the fabric to secure

• turn, sc in the middle sts again, then sl st the yarn back into the fabric to secure

• weave in the ends
