additional articles available at www.konturek.pl.
Before knitting, read whole instructions.
SIZE GUIDE:
There are five sizes included in the description of this pattern: for children, teenagers and adults (women, men).
Sizes for older children and teenagers are determined by the figures for adults (S, M, L).
INSTRUCTIONS:
You can make this hat in two ways: in rows or in the round. In both cases you will make it from the bottom up. Once you cast on your stitches, you will start working the brioche up to the indicated height. You will then model the crown of the hat, making decreases in the indicated places. Once the hat is blocked and finished, you will fold the brim outwards.
TUTORIALS:
The additional videos will help you to understand the instructions.
Techniques:
- Tubular Cast-On
- Double Stockinette Stitch
- Brioche stitch
- Stitch decrease
- Sewing with a mattress stitch (applies to the hat made in rows)
MATERIALS:
100 (100) 100 (150) 150 g Drops Daisy (50 g = 110 m 120 yd, 100% merino wool)
The yarn requirement given takes into account the knitting of the gauge and the hat (the yarn requirement for the hat alone is 100 (100) 100 (100) 150 g).
NEEDLES & ACCESSORIES:
NEEDLES – HAT IN ROWS
• 3 mm US 2 ½r long) circular needles with a 60 cm or 80 cm 24’’ or 32’’ cable or other size suitable for obtaining the correct gauge size
NEEDLES – HAT IN THE ROUND
• 3 mm US 2 ½ short circular needles with 40 cm 16’’ cable or other size suitable for obtaining the correct gauge size
• 3 mm US 2 ½ double-pointed needles or 3 mm US 2 ½r long) circular needles with 80 cm or 100 cm 32’’ or 40’’ cable to finish the crown of the hat using the magic loop method
• additionally for the size ‘children 1-2 yo’ it is recommended to use 3 mm US 2 ½ short circular needles with a 25 cm 10’’ cable or 3 mm US 2 ½ double--pointed needles to make the first rounds of the hat
ACCESSORIES
• stitch markers (including one in a contrasting colour for a hat worked in the round)
• darning needle
• measuring tape
GAUGE:
The following gauge was made on 3 mm US 2 ½ needles in rows and measured:
• before blocking: 5 x 5 cm 2 x 2 in = 9 sts x 14.5 rows in brioche
• after blocking: 5 x 5 cm 2 x 2 in = 7.3 sts x 14 rows in brioche
The value 9 / 7.3 sts corresponds to 9 / 7.3 brioche stitches (i.e. its columns), the yarn overs being a coherent part of the brioche stitch do not count as part of the number of stitches given in the pattern. Whereas the indicated number of rows corresponds to 14.5 / 14 knit stitches in one brioche column (1 knit stitch in a column equals 2 worked brioche rows).
