These mittens are knitted from the cuff up, in the round (with the exception of the thumb, which is knit flat). The colorwork is stranded throughout except for the thumb, which is overstitched at the end.

The other finishing work is weaving in ends and sewing a small bit of seam down the thumb. The pictures show the middle of this seam being left open, so you can pop your thumb out to use your phone, but you can make that gap any size or close up the whole seam. Instructions are included.

The pattern works up with two skeins of 219 yards each (one for the field color and one for the details), but you will have some left over.

There are notes on the colorwork charts included in this written section, but you’ll notice a lot of repetition in the palm side of the pattern - it looks busy, but is really made up of only a few different row repeats. If you purchased this pattern would like a custom color chart made, I can do that! Check out https://lisamas.com/color-charts to request a chart with the colors you’re going to use.

NOTE: To adjust finished dimensions between pattern sizes, you can change needle size and/or yarn thickness by a size without having to adjust the directions. The written combination of worsted weight yarn and US size 4 needles produces a tight fabric that holds its shape without being stiff. Bigger needles OR smaller yarn will make a more-flexible fabric and different final sizing.

Wet blocking is highly recommended to get a stable finished fabric that is easy to pull on and off.

When knitted with colorwork, this pattern fits like a sock, not a Croc. If you want more wiggle room, go up a size.

This is a pattern converted from Classic Mittens Pattern #615, published on Free Vintage Knitting from Gloves and Mittens, Volume 29, Bernhard Ulmann Company and inspired by Sandy Lamb’s Angry Mittens. The pattern for those is available on Ravelry.
